I have your letter of the 13th instant and also two copies of the compilation of my speeches made during my recent trip to California, published by your Company. I was not aware before of this publication. Will you please accept for Mrs. Harrison and myself thanks for your kindness.

In 1891, President Benjamin Harrison visited California as part of a transcontinental journey to celebrate the centennial of the United States. His tour of the Pacific Coast took place from April 14 to May 16, 1891. During his visit, Harrison made stops in Riverside, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles.
Cape May was visited by many Presidents but Harrison, in 1891, was the first to establish a Summer White House at the Congress Hall Hotel while electricity was being installed at the White House.
