Egyptian Silver Mirror Given As A Gift From Jehan Sedat to Betty Ford
Egyptian Silver Mirror, housed in a fitted red velvet presentation box with wood easel, with a presentation card from Jehan Sedat addressed on envelope to “Mrs. Ford”.
Height 8.5 inches, width 7 inches.
Provenance: Presented by Madame Jehan Sadat, First Lady of Egypt, to First Lady Betty Ford.
Estate / Collection: Property from the Collection of President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford.
On October 27, 1975, First Lady Betty Ford danced at a State Dinner honoring Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat, marking the first official visit of an Egyptian president to the United States. The visit aimed to advance peace talks in the Middle East, and President Sadat presented both Gerald and Betty Ford with awards at the end of the dinner. Betty received a medal from the Order of Al Kamal. We presume this mirror was exchanged during this time as well.
