Autograph letter signed “E Rutherford”, embossed stationery from “Newnham Cottage, Queen's Road, Cambridge”, February 14, 1925, in part:
I enclose herewith corrected m.s.s…to be reproduced in a small scale for illustration.
I had the beginnings of a bad cold, possibly ‘flu’ when I have my lecture…I am glad to know the audience was pleased. I would like the reprint of my lecture.
Ernest Rutherford (1871-1937) was a New Zealand-born British physicist who came to be known as the father of nuclear physics. He was the central figure in the study of radioactivity, and with his concept of the nuclear atom he led the exploration of nuclear physics. He won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1908, was president of the Royal Society (1925–30) and the British Association for the Advancement of Science (1923), was conferred the Order of Merit in 1925, and was raised to the peerage as Lord Rutherford of Nelson in 1931.
