Gerald R. Ford 1974 Typed Letter Signed as President - "As I Begin My Duties as President"
“I can't tell you how pleased I am to have your good wishes as I begin my duties as President"
38th President. Typed letter signed “Jerry Ford” AS PRESIDENT, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, September 20, 1974. Letter to the Hon. Edna F. Kelly, in part:
I can't tell you how pleased I am to have your good wishes as I begin my duties as President, and I know you will understand that the delayed response in no way diminishes my appreciation.
Having your support is most heartwarming and encouraging, and I'll do my utmost to continue to merit your high regard.
In fine condition.
Ford had just been inaugurated as President on August 9, 1974, following Nixon's resignation. One of his more famous letters as President was written just the day before where he commented on his decision to pardon Nixon - although he doesn’t discuss that here, it was clearly on his mind at this early stage of his term.
