Rutherford B. Hayes Signed Booklet – “Celebration of General Garfield's Election”
19th President. Booklet entitled “Remarks of President Hayes at the Celebration of General Garfield’s Election, Cleveland, Ohio, November 4, 1880”, 6×9.5, three pages, signed on the front at top: “With best wishes R. B. Hayes“.
In the president’s brief but stirring speech, he observes: “Looking through the catalogue of our distinguished public men, we find that General Garfield is to-day the model self-made man of our country. In the past we have had a Franklin and a Lincoln; but General Garfield is the best living illustration and example of what the humblest child of the Republic may become in a country where all have a fair start and an equal chance in life.”
In very good condition, folds, edge wear and toning patches to inside pages.
